Using pattern and motif discovery algorithms on sequences and graphs for intrusion detection systems

coderman: there is still no new info on the gemoda motif discovery algorithm; this one should be useful

Panda TruPrevent Claims 'Zero Day' Virus Protection

coderman: i'm waiting for the fallout of a 0day at google. the odds are good that sometime before now and the sun going nova it will happen.
coderman: <Larry> silly coder, we implement system diversity from the network layer up to XML parsers
coderman: "According to Panda, TruPrevent analyzes programs as they execute and detects viruses or software that has a malicious intent with patent-pending algorithms that become smarter over time, as a centralized malware knowledgebase "learns" from TruPrevent-powered computer nodes which collect the specific combination of behaviors and conditions surrounding various new threats."
coderman: this sounds a lot like the IDS IBM built using Teiresias pattern discovery against certain system calls to build a pattern database implicitly of correct behavior and then detecting malicious activity via behavioral change rather than signatures

linux support for firewire audio devices

interesting functional language presentation from LAC2005

eeeeeee: audio of talk

Cisco crams multiple security boxes into one

coderman: "The ASA 5500 series combines the functions of PIX firewalls, Cisco VPN 3000 Concentrators, Cisco IPS 4200 series appliances, and anti-virus and network quarantine technology based on Cisco's Network Admission Control (NAC) multi-vendor effort"

how long can the rabid communist linux advocates rub in longhorn beta 5048?

coderman: <bill> i am an ordained knight of her majesty's crown and i say it will last another 6.25 hours give or take a score of milliseconds.

Erich Honnecker was a sloppy kisser

"Karla Homolka A Female Serial Killer fears that if she's freed from prison she'll be slain by vigilantes"

coderman: but it is a rational or irrational fear? ONLY TIME WILL TELL!
coderman: "Labelle said Carla Homolka has not only received further threats from within the prison system, but she has also been targeted for death on chat groups his legal assistants have uncovered on the Internet."
coderman: <Karla> like, this one time, like, two weeks ago on #infoanarchy some dudes were all "wouldn't it be funny if someone offed that crazy bitch?" and someone else, like, i cant remember his name, was all "yeah man!", like he was planning something... yeah."

Miss Canada, 1993?

http://www.linksysinfo.org/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=2601

coderman: this is very similar to a number of diffirent problems that affect windows systems and wireless cards with crappy firmware
coderman: for windows, the network auto discovery stuff in XP loves to shit on a good connection
coderman: for firmwarez, if you have poor antenna diversity control your card will keep switching to the shitty port periodically just to see if maybe it is better, but no, it still sucks, and your connection sucks now too. ooops, lets switch back.
coderman: and obviously all the fun higher level impact this has on network stacks (cough, tcp, cough) that interpret latency as congestion

Disaster Management in Scale-Free Networks: Recovery from and Protection Against Intentional Attacks

vab: This paper studies the effect of continuous attacks on scale-free networks (such as P2P networks), and how to recover from an attack. Since P2P systems are often billed as robust, it is important to consider not only random failures, but also attacks. We see that if the network is reactive, we can recover almost instantly from attacks.

Army misses April recruiting goal by 42 percent
