A new Pee-Wee movie? Possibly

Zerodhero: But it's looking more as if Reubens will be returning to the land of anthropomorphic furniture and the Word of the Day, executing an idea that he presented to Paramount years before "Pee-wee's Big Adventure" made the character a pop culture star in 1985. Reubens is hoping to get all the original "Pee-wee's Playhouse" actors together -- with the exception of his good friend Phil Hartman, who died in 1998 -- for a new movie.

An Open Letter to The Personal Telco Project

coderman: "We'd better tighten up our boot straps and figure out where we go from here because I don't see anything within our organization currently that makes us relevant. We haven't done anything new in years and there have been NO new ideas, goals or guidance from our elected officials since the last election."

Funny Death Predictions

Zerodhero: Zero: At age 35 while playing Tekken 23, a burgler will break into your house. A fight will ensue and you will lose.
coderman: don't worry, the burgler was using an aimbot and cheated; your death is honorable!
Zerodhero: Zero: At age 37 you will be hunted by a strange apparition resembling Andy Griffith, and subsequently commit suicide after the stress proves to be too much.
Zerodhero: I can actually see this one happening: Zero: At age 60 after your spouse leaves you and your children disown you, you will go to work to find that you have been fired. This all proves too much to take. You decide to take a walk in the park but are robbed and murdered before you get there.
pretender: pretender: At age 45 you will die fighting the Interplanetary War on Terrorism on Camp Harmony, Venus.
coderman: oderman: At age 77 a group of children will text message you continuously for three years, eventually distracting you while driving and causing a fatal wreck; your fatal wreck. -- FUCKIN' PUNK KIDS!
coderman: guess that means i must chop off the fingers of all children born in the year 2052 and beyond...

NYT article on Brooklyn camera stores

OverUnder: city has little power to regulate offshore sales via web .. lots of complaints of bait-and-switch tactics
OverUnder: apparently no actual fraud
OverUnder: although maybe 'false advertising' I guess .. if that counts as a type of fraud
OverUnder: another article from PCWorld
OverUnder: pics of stores in Brooklyn .. the ones the authorities haven't got a policy on is the ones with no storefront
OverUnder: not sure if its a brooklyn-specific problem, but amazon was giving me 7 different dealers with prices for one item, they all were basically the same site, in a frame, with a different masthead for each 'different' store
OverUnder: didn't check what location those were supposedly in at all
OverUnder: caveat emptor
OverUnder: see also
OverUnder: I guess if the industry is sooo cutthroat, the vendors probably file/publish complaints against each other too .. so a large grain of salt is prescribed

Curing Cancer: A Patent Impossibility

coderman: "There are millions of terminal cancer victims on this planet. So, logically, the next step would be to find some volunteers and start trying to find the optimum human dose range, combinations of other apoptosis inducers that work synergistically with DCA, supplements to reduce side effects, etc."
coderman: "Logically in our libertarian minds, perhaps. In the real world, nothing of the kind will happen. The FDA will not allow people in the orderly and profitable process of agonizing death by incurable cancers to try nonapproved drugs."
coderman: key word "PROFITABLE"
OverUnder: teh article at _Cancer Cell_ journal
OverUnder: teh substance D
OverUnder: "a product of water chlorination and a metabolite of certain industrial solvents"
OverUnder: don't try this at home, folks
OverUnder: there has been a new scientist story in the last couple of days
OverUnder: links to a site set up by the uni of alberta to deal with the public interest
OverUnder: it is somewhat more hopeful in outlook than lew rockwell.com: "These may have to be funded by charities, universities and governments: pharmaceutical companies are unlikely to pay because they can?t make money on unpatented medicines. The pay-off is that if DCA does work, it will be easy to manufacture and dirt cheap."
OverUnder: "University of Alberta and the Alberta Cancer Board are committed to performing clinical trials in the immediate future in consultation with regulatory agencies such as Health Canada. We believe that because DCA has been used on human beings in Phase 1 and Phase 2 trials of metabolic diseases, the cancer clinical trials timeline for our research will be much shorter than usual."
