surrael: rule #34

People who most need saving from Christian missionaries

surrael: leave them alone you fucken wankers

teh internets

surrael: "The sun is blank--no sunspots. "
surrael:
surrael: also "There are no coronal holes on the Earth-facing side of the sun."
surrael: coresponds with low solar output, and high cosmic ray incidence (due to low solar wind, not pushing them out of the solar system as much)
surrael: EVEN IF WE ARE HEADING INTO A NEW ICE AGE BECAUSE OF LOW SOLAR ACTIVITY (BIG IF) THAT WILL NOT SAVE YOU OR YOUR CHILDREN
surrael: FROM OCEANIC ACIDIFICTION KILLING VIRTUALLY ALL PRESENT OCEANIC LIFEFORMS IN 50-100 YRS IF HUMANITY'S NETT CO2 OUTPUT IS NOT EFFECTIVELY EXTINGUISHED
surrael: science here
surrael: welcome to #facescience
surrael:
surrael: LOOKY TEH PRETY PICSHAS!
surrael: btw there goes your oceanic sink ... turns out the oceans need 1000's of years to absorb the amounts of CO2 we've been pumping into the air
surrael: HEAR is a good plain-english explanation of the ocean acidification problem
surrael: REMEMBER: DON"T CLIKC!!!!
surrael: acidfiction
surrael: acidifacestion
surrael: acidifivegotaquestion....?
surrael: When a comet hit the Yucatan Peninsula in northern Mexico 65 million years ago, massive amounts of calcium sulphate were blasted into the atmosphere. There it reacted with oxygen and water to form sulphuric acid. The amounts of sulphuric acid were sufficient to make the surface ocean corrosive for the calcareous shells and skeletons of surface dwelling organisms...
surrael: " It probably only took a few years until mixing with deep ocean waters neutralized acidification at the surface, but it was long enough to cause the extinction of nearly all planktonic calcifiers. Two million years went by before corals reappeared in the fossil record. It took a further 20 million years for the species diversity of calcifying groups to recover to pre-extinction levels."
surrael: more precedent
surrael: more research MOARRRRR!!!~1
surrael: "By mid-century, 2050-ish, we will probably see noticeable gaps within coral reefs"
surrael: "The inventory of CO32-, the buffering agent, is about 2000 Gton C, which is about how much fossil carbon we are projected to release under business as usual by the year 2100." ibid.
surrael: ie the rate of acidification will increase, even if the rate of output of CO2 is steady, because carbonate in the ocean will be gradually locked up in neutralising the carbonic acid
surrael: *"We should note that there are huge uncertainties with regard to changes in the circulation and biology of the ocean." ... meaning of course, that things could be worse, as well as could be better, by a large margin .... YMMV
surrael: oh and while you're drafting a solution [cough] to this .. remember to note that "the NEXT doubling of Earth?s population is scheduled to happen in LESS THAN 50 years"
surrael: QUICK! SOMEONE MANUFACTURE SOME EVIDENCE!~~!!!!!111111111111LOL
surrael: acidifacestab
surrael: these people are scientists. you don't have to trust them. they publish their methods and their results so others can check for themselves. why don't you do just that?
surrael: or maybe ask someone you do trust to do it for you.
surrael: keywords: tipping point
surrael: all ur face belong to us
surrael: the old oceanic sink is the new acid ocean. the oceanic sink was always the acid ocean. acid ocean is our friend.
surrael: wanna play?
surrael:
surrael: acidifacestation
surrael: soylent green is PEOPLE!!!!
