welcome to #faecestab, we print all the news that's shit!

9th Circuit court rules that "Under God" (added to the Pledge of Allegiance in 1954) does not violate the First Amendment (separation of church and state)

seti: I find this whole pledge-saying business deeply creepy and whenever I see an American citizen I think to myself "This person went through 15 years of swearing allegiance to a fucking flag every morning."

Triumph Of The Conservative Will

seti: Texas standards 'a debacle for public education'
seti: America, your future is China. As in, exploited workers in severely polluting factories.
seti: ... You will stand united and praise the Flag, under God.
thelink: see also
thelink: "'We are adding balance,'" said some fuck
thelink: because "'Academia is skewed too far [away from self-righteousness ignorance]'"
thelink: this is the state where George Fuckwit Bush was Senator prior to becoming world dictator in 2001
thelink: and in which role he rates as one of USA's greatest serial killers ... prior to his elevation of course to becoming one of history's greatest mass murderers
thelink: take THAT! SADDAM!111~111111!!!!!!!!! <groan>
thelink: zombie saddam will eat your brain in the afterlife

Mukasey's Muddle

seti: emptywheel explains why the previous United States Attorney General is a confused, duplicitous, weaselly, ideological hack

Why don't honest journalists take on Roger Ailes and Fox News?

kandinski: The shameful partisanship of Fox "News", denounced by the Washington Post
kandinski: Nothing we don't know, but nice to hear it from the WaPo
thelink: Fox News is partisan? </innocent looking>
thelink: maybe we can get them on false advertising laws ... describing that biased shite as 'News' ...
thelink: Washington Post and every other mainstream news outlet in the US should already know who should be pulling Fox up on their ethics ... the various Journalists Associations of which Fox reporters should be members
thelink: in theory ... maybe one day someone will pull us up on the fact we aren't real anarchists ...
thelink: the article derides Murdoch for allegedly importing loose journalism standards to USA from UK ... iirc it's more the case that Murdoch single-handedly destroyed British journalistic standards originally himself also ... he didn't source his ethics from UK or from Australia where he originates ... he foisted his own brand of editorial interference combined with monopoly upon the world of his own accord
thelink: but yes, britain already had sleaze journalism which Murdoch hurriedly snaffled up
thelink: his career seems to have followed a model set by orson wells' film citizen kane
thelink: probably the person most responsible for the global wave of lowest-common-denominator-driven mediocrity of creeping fascism we see in english-speaking countries of today
thelink: recommend u view outfoxed
thelink: some can trace america's decline in journalistic standards at least to Hearst, well prior to Murdoch's interference in that continent
thelink: which also links to a request for press to re-examine its coverage of Fox in just the way that the main link WP article does
thelink: yay
thelink: (oct 2009 ... to mar 2010 about 6 mths lag)
thelink: does the US have rules which govern political parties? perhaps those should be applied to Fox and its subscribers
thelink: or would that just give them a tax break and constitutional protection of their expressed opinions?
thelink: ah .. this oct 2009 article goes further and it's quite clever and true, suggesting that Fox as a political player, should be covered by other media ... unfortunately that perhaps would just increase their viewership and => profit
thelink: which is why there used to be laws and stuff to prevent media doing this ... most of which murdoch and others have had winnied away under cover of things like Free Trade Agreements etc
