NickleHydride: CAVEAT EMPTOR: Last update: 15. February 2001
NickleHydride: should be able to (1) use dd to back up your existing partition table, then (2) use output from gpart to set up new partition table ..
NickleHydride: recalling (3) that extended partition table has another partition table at the start of it, so you need to back those sectors up first, because they will get overwritten the moment you make any logical drives ...
NickleHydride: and (4) of course also the moment you start writing, even writing a boot block, to any of the reconstructed 'partitions' you have guessed, then you need to back up whatever you are writing over there too .. in case you are wrong ... which is quite common actually
NickleHydride: but if you do make those backups and are careful to try mounting stuff ro and so forth cautiously, this way you can probably fix whatever even though you don't have a spare TB to dd your ruined data to to perform surgery on
NickleHydride: of course, boot from a livecd, and one which doesn't automount all your partitions rw
